I wonder what you defenders of Scott Roeder would think if someone, knowing Roeder was planning on killing Dr. Tiller, acted on that knowledge, stalked Roeder and killed him before he could commit his deed? I wonder if you would then protest against that person using a justifiable homicide defense, like Roeder did? Hmmm...Also, stop calling Roeder an heroic figure who was willing to sacrifice his own freedom and life to save others. Horseshit! He sought a lesser sentence and tried to weasel out of accountability for his action by using the aforementioned justifiable homicide defense. That he sought any defense at all, shows just how cowardly and full of bullshit he is, and you are, so stop claiming he's a self-sacrificing hero for the unborn. That dog don't hunt.
I'm no fan of abortion, but it's a legally sanctioned medical procedure, one option among many between a woman and her doctor, and generally used as the very last resort (despite your misrepresentations to the contrary), with the ultimate, agonizing decision on the matter belonging to the woman. Dr. Tiller did nothing illegal. And if you claim the Bible says abortion is murder, prove it. The Bible is as murky as a muddy pool on the subject of abortion, especially regarding the nature of the fetus; both sides use scripture to make their own points on this subject. So use this as an excuse to actually go read your Bible instead of merely mouthing words you heard someone else toss in your direction.
Scott Roeder is nothing but a goddamned murderer and a fucking coward and he got his just reward. This time Lady Justice wasn't blind. No, she looked evil squarely in the face and meted out the right punishment in response. Fuck you, Roeder.

You forgot to add terrorist.
Phuck: Yeah, the motherfucker's one of those too. Big time!
scott roeder was so convinced of his own righteousness and was so willing to trade his own freedom to save others that right after he assassinated Dr. Tiller, he marched himself right over to the sheriff's office to confess. oh, wait. no he didn't.
i hope he rots in jail. may he never have another moment's peace.
Nonnie: Exactly. I hope this in no way sounds as if I condone what Roeder did, but if he had just owned up, and been a man about what he did and took responsibility for his actions and said, "I'm guilty, and I'm fully prepared to accept whatever fate that declaration brings with it", or something somewhat similar, I could almost begrudgingly respect him for how he handled the aftermath of his crime.
I hope he rots in jail also.
The fact that this nut actually has defenders like that should surprise me, but it doesn't.
Even though my views on abortion, while they partially include a woman's right to choose, but stops on that particular procedure, are somewhat normal, what he did was inexcusable.
But there will always be people on both sides of the equation (Planned Parenthood & Army of God) who believe that using any means necessary is not only the right thing to do, but the honorable as well.
G: I can respect people who honestly believe a fetus is a full fledged autonomous human being, and believe that even having the choice to terminate a pregnancy is wrong. I don't agree with them, but I can accept that position. But what I can never accept is that killing in the name of that position is permissable and even lauded. That's inexcusable.
Roeder is yet another coward who hides behind his religion to sanctify his actions. He murered someone. He should go to jail. Period. Full stop.
Absolutely.
Poietes: I couldn't have said it better myself :-)
G: See, we have some common ground upon which to agree :-)
Forget a fetus. I don't believe an actual child is a real person until it can stand on its own two feet and yell "NO!" at the top of its lungs. Until then, it's just a cute blob of flesh, a human puppy, and should be thought of as such.
I think most humans alive today should have been aborted, but even if I were against abortion, I would never defend this ass-clown in public.
He is a terrorist attempting to change laws by murdering people. Plain & simple. His mama should have aborted him.
Sedate Me: While I won't go so far as to say that you're theory on child development is harsh, I will say it is interesting.
As for Roeder, I think these words of yours sum it up nicely: but even if I were against abortion, I would never defend this ass-clown in public.
He is a terrorist attempting to change laws by murdering people. Plain & simple.
Amen. He's a terrorist. Plain and simple, and as such he got what he deserved.
I know it's been over nine months (why does that term -- as it were -- ring a bell? I'm sure it's important for some reason or another. Can't for the life of me think why, though) since G's comment was posted -- ancient history, a whole 'nother aeon in 'net terms -- I still just have to respond. Apologies all round, but I can't help myself -- it's in my contract (see tag).
When G wrote:
"there will always be people on both sides of the equation (Planned Parenthood & Army of God)..."
that's another of the false equivalences that we're so used to hearing from the corporate mass media, and from Publican / Teabeggar / conservatard apologists.
As I write this, it's just a few days since the attempted assassination of a Member of Congress (and the accomplished murder of nine other human beings, one of them a 9-year-old girl) -- a Member of Congress who just happens to be a Democrat (and I think prochoice as well, tho not sure).
There are close to a dozen (maybe more, tuff to keep track) doctors, staffers at women's clinics, bodyguards, etc, who have been murdered by anti-choice, government-forced-birth (that is what it is, you know; you can't pretend otherwise) fanatics over the last few decades.
Can you name one anti-abortion activist, protester, leader, follower, volunteer, whatever who was murdered for their anti-abortion stance?
Just one?
Yeah, I didn't think so.
So can we stop with the "both sides do it" bullshit?
The only people who kill other people in the fights over reproductive rights are the ones who call themselves "pro-life."
Funny how that works, innit?
