Watch As The People Of Charleston, West Virginia, Effectively Counter-Protest Against Fred Phelps And His Westboro Baptist "Church". Brilliant!

I can't tell you how proud I am of the good folks from my hometown of Charleston, WV, especially after seeing this video. They faced a monster and turned it out. Fred Phelps and his "church" are a disgusting brood of hate, filth and lies. And while his whole stance on homosexuality is particularly revolting, exploiting the current mining tragedy in Raleigh County (where 25 miners died) to further his own agenda is truly disgusting; one of Phelp's ugly little orclings has a sign that reads, "Thank God for Dead Miners." Simply nauseating and offensive. I still find it really hard to believe that Phelps was once a civil rights attorney. Despite that, I hope he burns in hell. I know I'm no better than he is for saying that, but I'm not the one using scripture as a basis for my rancor, hatred and bigotry.

Anyway, I'm just glad that my beloved hamlet of Charleston showed Phelps the fucking door. Of course, I know not everyone in West Virginia's a redneck bigot, but it's really nice to be able to show others the truth of it.

However, is it too much to ask that they not line dance or square dance on the steps of the Capitol Complex steps?

Wow, I get so cynical anymore, but this brought tears to my eyes. I want to thank every one of those people who so brilliantly halted whatever that monster had in store. Yeah, you have every reason to be proud...and even though I am not from WV, I'm feeling mighty proud myself.

Agatha: Welcome to the Fresh New Brain Squeezin's! And yeah, it's pretty inspiring seeing these people fend off the unwanted bigotry of Phelps and his evil scions of hatred. West Virginia's far from perfect, but in this particular situation it doesn't need to be, it just needs to be right. And it is. It made me tear up a little bit also. I miss West Virginia, in more ways than one.

I think our state has been fortunate enough not to be tainted by the stain that is...eccchhh...Fred Whelps and his dysfunctional family.

Good counter protest.

G: Long may your state remain untainted by the presence of Phelps and his trolls.

Wow he tried to use the Mining Tragedy for his "cause". That is unbelievably fucking low. But then someone who targets Goldstar families knows no boundaries and for all his god talk, clearly is not acquainted with anything sacred, except that tentacled beast of an ego, he sees everytime he looks in the mirror.

Seeing Eye Chick: Not to put too fine a point on it, but Phelps is just a fucking piece of shit. He and everyone one of his WBC compatriots.

Wow. I have a very cold spot in my heart that is reserved for Phelps and his followers. So good to see an effective counter-protest. I fail to see how miners dying is in keeping with god's will.

phelps and his disciples are pieces of filth, and i'm so glad that they are being shut down, even by high school kids.

That absolutely made my day! If anything good can come out of this hateful group's existence, it's that EVERYONE hates them, politics aside. We could all learn a lesson from this.

Poietes: I think in Phelps' "mind" those miners deaths are god's retribution for this country accepting homosexuals as human beings who should be treated in a civil and respectful way as human beings. Of course, gays are still one of the very last groups that many people feel perfectly fine persecuting, but even that isn't enough for Phelps...

Fireblossom: Thank you for stopping by. I appreciate it. You know, it would've made me really proud to see this happen anywhere, but that it happened in my old stomping grounds, among the hillbillies and rednecks (lol), is even more pride inducing for me.

Nonnie: I honestly think we need a new word to describe how filthy and disgusting Phelps truly is. Let's make one up for him!

Lynne: Thank you for stopping by! Yes, you're right. I don't know how many people in that counter-protest group were overtly pro-gay, but I know everyone there was definitely anti-Phelps and I think that's a very good start.
